Family and Friends,
Many of you know that our son, Rory, will have surgery on Monday, December 3 to correct a congenital heart defect known as Atrioventricular Canal.
It will be a long day beginning with pre-op at 5AM at CMC Charlotte. The surgery is expected to take 5-7 hours and we will hopefully be able to reunite with Rory in the Cardiovascular Recovery Unit (CVRU) about mid afternoon. His time in CVRU could be 24-48 hours while his complete stay could be as little as 5-7 days. Full recovery at home would then take about 6 weeks.
In an attempt to keep you informed as best as possible, we have set up a few ways for you to get concise information as it happens that day and more insight into his recovery the following week which will include photos.

This is essentially global instant messaging. It’s a simple way for me to get info to everyone. I will be leaving brief bites of information as we get them concerning his surgery. You can simply check the status timeline by viewing the web address above.
Or you can receive updates via RSS feed:

This is where Shannon will be providing her perspective on the situation. It is essentially a blog but is specifically part of a network of other blogs from parents of children facing medical issues.
RORY’S HEART:
So, what about rorysheart.com?
I’m not sure at this point. I like the idea of it. But I want to do something that covers both Aiden and Rory if not the whole family. When so much was unknown about his condition, it seemed more relevant to have that focus. But with his phenomenal health and the fact we have not been getting out much made it less compelling to write for a topic so specific.
I believe once we are back home from the hospital I will have the answer but I would like to do something much simpler and more inclusive of the whole family. I will keep you posted.
If you have any questions please, by all means, ask.
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.
